QURAN – THE GREATEST BOOK FOR GUIDANCE
It is as if the path of guidance and the path of misguidance and the difference between truth and falsehood have been openly explained by this sacred book. In another place, Allah, the Exalted, has described it as His advice, healing, guidance and mercy for the diseases of people’s hearts. It is said:
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَآءٌۭ لِّمَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ وَهُدًۭى وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Translation: “O humanity! Indeed, there has come to you a warning from your Lord, a cure for what is in the hearts, a guide, and a mercy for the believers.” [Surah Yunus: 57]
That is, this book is advice and guidance for all mankind from their Lord. Then those who accept this advice of Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala and believe in it and follow his instructions, this Qur’an will cure their spiritual diseases, disbelief, polytheism, love of the world, arrogance, malice and stubbornness, miserliness, and selfishness. etc., which destroy and ruin the human heart, it proves to be healing and mercy.
HOW CAN WE GET FULL BENEFITS FROM THE QURAN?
The person gets all benefits of the Holy Qur’an only when he recites it, meditates on its verses, understands its commands, instructions, prohibitions, advice, and exhortations, and also acts on it. The purpose of reading the Holy Quran slowly and steadily is not only that its words are recited correctly and with correct pronunciation, but also that its meanings and demands are well understood by the reader.
Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-‘As: Yazid ibn Abdullah said that
Abdullah ibn Amr asked the Prophet (ﷺ): In how many days should I complete the recitation of the whole Qur’an, Messenger of Allah? He replied: In one month. He said: I am more energetic to complete it in a period less than this. He kept on repeating these words and lessening the period until he said: Complete its recitation in seven days. He again said: I am more energetic to complete it in a period less than this. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: He who finishes the recitation of the Qur’an in less than three days does not understand it. [Reference Sunan Abi Dawood: 1390]
It became clear that in recitation it is necessary to read the Qur’an with understanding. Not only that, the Holy Qur’an has clearly stated the purpose of its revelation in another place for contemplation and remembrance.
IS IT NECESSARY FOR EVERYONE TO LEARN QURAN WITH TAFSIR?
Every Muslim must meditate on the verses of the Qur’an. But a surprising way of thinking that has arisen among Muslims is that “recitation of the Holy Quran is enough for common Muslims and pondering over its verses and understanding their meaning and demands is the work of scholars only.” As if this book was revealed only for scholars, not for the public! The fact is that every Muslim must meditate on his verses, to understand their meaning and demands, and act on them.
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ۚ
Translation: “Do they not then reflect on the Quran? [Surah An Nisa: 82]
Just consider that the hypocrites of the first century were also expected to meditate on the Qur’an so that their faith and actions would be reformed, but now not even a Muslim considers it necessary for them. This is the result of the same way of thinking under which it has been implanted in our minds that you cannot understand the Qur’an. Therefore, instead of meditating on it, recite its words only for the sake of reward and blessings. However, many unfortunate people cannot even recite words.
Undoubtedly, the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, even if it is done without understanding the meaning and demands, is not devoid of reward, blessings, and benefits, but does it fulfill the purpose of the revelation of the Qur’an? No and not! Any book or writing that contains some instructions, read without understanding it, cannot fulfill the main purposes of its compilation and authorship. It is just like reading a patient’s prescription written by a doctor without understanding it and hoping for healing from it.
It is well known among the people that it is very difficult to understand Quran and Hadith. It requires great knowledge. How we ignorant can understand and how can we act accordingly? It can only be practiced only by scholars. This idea is completely baseless because God Almighty said that the words of the Holy Qur’an are clear and arranged.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO LEARN QURAN WITH TAFSIR?
Scholars should organize short-term courses based on Islamic knowledge for students and teachers in contemporary educational institutions from time to time so that the correct knowledge of Islam can reach them and their attachment to Islam. They can run such programs systematically if they organize properly.
People associated with contemporary education, nay, every educated Muslim should relate to the Book of Allah. Recite the Holy Quran daily with its meaning and demands. There are authentic translations and interpretations of the Quran in every language, so there is no excuse for anyone. If even two pages are recited in this way daily, it will produce amazing results.
Do not assume that we will not understand. When you can understand the complicated worldly sciences, why can’t you understand the Holy Quran which is related to your life? Just need to step up. Consider sometimes that books are written by people like you, including many transgressors, you read day and night just to get worldly benefits for a few days, but why we can’t read and understand The book of Allah, which is associated with success of both this world and the hereafter.
After all, what excuse will we be able to present in front of Allah Almighty, when the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) will file this complaint in the court of God on the Day of Judgment: O my Lord! Indeed, the people of my nation had left this Holy Qur’an. Therefore, we should start learning Quran with tafsir without delay from today.
LEARNING QURAN WITH TAFSIR
We read different books in life. We read every sentence with great attention and if we don’t understand something, we read it again to understand what the writer is trying to say. If we are not satisfied even after re-reading, we contact the teacher or the scholar so that the matter gets completely into the heart and mind. But when it’s time to read the Holy Qur’an, we quickly read it we don’t focus on understanding it correctly. Have we ever considered what Allah wants to say to us? By God! If people understand Quran and start to act real peace and tranquility will be achieved in the world.
It depends on demand, quest, hobby, and preferences. It will be read with understanding in the case when we want to discover the truth. And this quest happens only when questions arise in the mind. When we want to know the truth about ourselves and the universe, we want to find a social system where we can live a peaceful and purposeful life with other human beings. It should be remembered that only the clarification of curiosity is not enough, science has also uncovered many secrets. Reading the Qur’an with understanding will be beneficial for mankind only when its teachings are brought into practical life. But the first destination is familiarity with God.
Once a person walks on this path of recognition, the process will begin to come automatically in life. At least we should start learning Quran with tafsir. we should know what Allah is saying to us.
WHAT IF WE DON’T LEARN QURAN WITH TAFSIR?
Allah Almighty has bestowed countless rewards on us and He has expressed it. The Holy Qur’an which Allah Almighty has given to His servants to achieve success in this world and the hereafter. But it is a pity that people today, especially we Muslims, have adopted the attitude of underestimating this great blessing of Allah Almighty. The greater the blessing, the greater the demands of gratitude. If it is disregarded, then its punishment is also big.
This is the reason why today we are humiliated in the Muslim world due to leaving this Qur’an. We are well aware of the causes of our humiliation, but we are not willing to remove these causes. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) informed us that through this book (following the Qur’an) Allah will give many people high places and many people will be humiliated (due to its consequences).
If we do not pay attention to understanding and following Quran, we can never change our lives according to the will of Allah Almighty. Reading and understanding the Holy Qur’an, practicing its teachings, and conveying its teachings to other people is so important that without it no human being can lead a truly successful life in this world or the Hereafter.
Therefore, it is obligatory for every human being, and especially for every Muslim to understand the Holy Qur’an.
